REPORT FROM THE 31ST INF/FNI = 4TH EUNAT PETANQUE TOURNAMENT AT HERTOGSTAD – `T VINKEL IN THE NETHERLANDS FROM THE 24-08-2012 UNTIL 26-08-2012

I am pleased to say that this was the first event that I was fully on my own to oversee.

The NFN had surpassed itself when the weather was not on their side for the majority of the event; however the rain stopped for the final game of the tournament. The finale was breath taking to watch and had everyone enthralled with each changing end, it was a good game to watch capturing everyone.

We had six federations taking part in the tournament:
1 NFN = Netherlands with 17 pairs
2 DFK = Germany with 13 pairs
3 BN = Great Britain with 11 pairs
4 FBN = Belgium with 11 pairs
5 FFN = France with 10 pairs
6 FENAIT = Italy with 2 pairs
There were 408 persons present at this tournament. (Players-supporters-helpers)

The main prize results were:

in 64th place Rita D`Heedene / Frans Werbrouck of the FBN

In the D Group
51st Heike & Hans Grossman of the DFK
50th Michèle Dufour / Jean Huge Bertier of the FFN
49th Rietje Vlaskamp / Jan Smuts of the NFN

In the C Group
35th Brenda & Brian Bayliss of the BN
34th Andree & Roger Viola of the FFN
33rd Ingrid & Peter Prange of the DFK

In the B Group
19th Marlies & Peter Ackermann of the DFK
18th Yvonne & Henk Smit of the DFK
17th Irene & Lothar Gaspers of the DFK

In the A Group
3rd Claudie & Philippe Lebon of the FFN
2nd Susi & Timo Sommer of the DFK
1st Alie Wijnstekers / Jan Paashuis of the NFN

So well done to all of the winners! The games were played in the best of gamesmanship throughout the tournament. Once again proving a wonderful occasion to meet friends of old and make friends new from the many federations within Europe.

My thanks to the club for holding and organising this event. The bright, warm sun as I arrived matched the friendliness of the club members who ensured all the visitors were looked after for the duration of their stay. I have many happy memories of this event, from the warmth of the sun, the air balloon that came over most evenings, to the wonderful moonlight evenings, along with good food, great entertainment and many friends made.

My thanks also to the federation for all the hard work and support given to everyone taking part, for ensuring all the pistes were to a high playing standard, given the weather conditions. For undertaking the marking of games and sorting out each round to be played which I know from experience is not easy to undertake.

I look forward to meeting you all again next year.
