The Last Clothing Optional
Nude Art Contest in San Francisco!!??
San
Francisco City Hall
Tuesday,
October 30, 2012
Noon
Protest
over proposed SF anti-nudity legislation + nude art contest + free after-party
All
events are clothing-optional or "as bare as you dare"
Background: Currently, public nudity is legal in San
Francisco. The only limitations are no sexual conduct, putting a
barrier between the butt and public furniture, and remaining in the public area
of a restaurant. …District 8 Supervisor, Scott Wiener has submitted
anti-nudity legislation before the San Francisco Board of
Supervisors. The bill has been nicknamed the “Wiener Bill”. The
first committee hearing is at City Hall, 10am, Monday, November
5. Public comment is welcome. . . . This
legislation would ban public nudity all over San Francisco. The only
exceptions would be police “permitted” events like Bay-to-Breakers, Gay Pride,
and Folsom Street Fair. Nudity would be illegal at the World Naked Bike
Ride (10th year anniversary and observed in 85 cities
worldwide), the nudist contingent in Critical Mass, nude-themed costumes on St.
Stupids Day and Halloween, walking to and from the “permitted events”,
political campaigns for nudist rights, protecting San Francisco’s Guiness Book
of Records entry for the largest number of Naked Santas, “Garden of Eden”
parklet for Park(ing) Day, street art performances, 4th
Nude-In, peace marches, and the general right to be yourself. San
Francisco has been considered by many worldwide to be a center for free thought
and innovative ideas. This legislation is an attack on San Francisco
Art and Culture. . . . This legislation affects
everyone’s freedom. Remember: as an artist working in nude themes, 100 years
ago you would have had to put fig leaves on the “naughty bits.” That
type of thinking is coming back unless you resist. . . . This art
show came as an extension of planning this October 30 protest.
We
came up with an idea that it would be great to bring classical nude paintings
to the protest to remind the Supervisors that human body is sacred and
beautiful, and that an attack on our right to be nude is an attack on
sacredness, beauty, love, freedom, art and creative self-expression. Along with
the classical art we would be most honored to see some of our very own local
nude art by our local artists so we can all enjoy their art together and also
to show that nudity in art is just as vibrantly alive now as it was in the
times of the classic masters. In our nude art contest the jury will be anyone
in the protest and anyone present at the scene. Any medium of art is welcome as
long as it is easily portable and as long as it doesn't block pedestrian flow. If
you have a nude art piece please bring it to the art contest (sending
representative to show your artwork is OK). If you know someone else who does
nude art, please let them know!
We
will tally the votes after the protest and announce the winners at an
after-party (all invited), 7pm, at the Center for Sex and Culture, 1349
Mission, between 9th and 10th St. Ecstatic
Dance DJ, snacks, and good company featured at the free
after-party. Please bring your art work to the after-party as well.
